Sprinkle-Topped Vanilla Bundt with Drippy Icing

A buttery vanilla pound cake baked in a fluted pan gets a thick, bright white icing that drips down every ridge. Colorful sprinkles scattered over the top turn a simple cake into a cheerful party piece. The crumb is fine and sturdy, so it slices neatly for birthdays, bake sales and school celebrations.

Method 7 steps

  1. Heat the oven to 325 F and grease and flour a 12-cup bundt pan well.

  2. Whisk the flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl.

  3. Beat the butter and sugar 5 minutes until very light, then add the eggs one at a time, beating after each.

  4. Mix the milk and vanilla, then add to the batter alternately with the dry ingredients on low speed until smooth.

  5. Pour into the pan and bake 55 to 65 minutes until deep golden and a skewer comes out clean. Cool 15 minutes, invert and cool completely.

  6. Whisk the powdered sugar and milk into a thick icing that falls in a slow ribbon.

  7. Spoon the icing around the top so it runs down the ridges, then scatter sprinkles over it immediately.
