Velvety Matcha Latte with Tulip Art
Bright green tea whisked to a smooth paste, then crowned with silky steamed milk poured into a layered tulip. The flavor is grassy and a touch sweet, with a round creaminess that makes it a gentle alternative to coffee on slow mornings. Practice the pour and it gets prettier every time.

-
Sift the matcha into a wide cup to break up any clumps, which otherwise stay gritty.
-
Add 2 tablespoons of 175 F water and whisk in a quick zigzag motion with a bamboo whisk or small frother for 20 to 30 seconds, until smooth and lightly foamy. Stir in the honey and the extra tablespoon of water.
-
Steam or heat the milk to about 140 F, aerating only for the first few seconds so it forms fine, glossy microfoam with no big bubbles.
-
Tap the milk jug on the counter and swirl it until the surface looks like wet paint.
-
Tilt the cup, pour from about 3 inches high into the center until the cup is half full, then lower the spout close to the surface.
-
Pour a small white blob, stop, push a second blob into it, then repeat once more to stack the tulip layers.
-
Finish by lifting the jug slightly and drawing a thin line through the center of the shapes, dust the saucer edge with a pinch of matcha and serve immediately.
Tap a step to mark it done.
