Lemon-Sliced Iced Black Tea
Deep amber and properly cold, this iced black tea is brewed strong so melting ice never leaves it watery. A thin lemon slice steeps right in the glass, adding bright citrus oils to the malty tea. Keep a jug in the fridge for hot afternoons and backyard lunches.

-
Bring 4 cups of water to a boil, then take the pan off the heat and let it sit 1 minute so it drops to about 205 F.
-
Add the tea bags and steep for exactly 5 minutes; longer steeping pulls out harsh, bitter tannins.
-
Lift out the tea bags without squeezing them, then stir in the sugar until fully dissolved.
-
Pour in the cold water and the juice of 1 lemon, then cool to room temperature and chill at least 1 hour.
-
Fill tall glasses with ice, tuck a lemon slice down the side of each glass and pour in the chilled tea.
-
Serve with halved lemons on the side so everyone can add an extra squeeze.
