Backyard Mixed Sausage Grill

A fun, flexible grill spread with plump bratwurst, coiled spiral sausages pinned with skewers and scored smoked frankfurters, all charred over medium coals until snappy and juicy. Put out mustards, soft rolls and a crunchy salad and let everyone build their own plate.

Method 6 steps

  1. Simmer the bratwurst in the beer with the sliced onion for 10 minutes over low heat, without boiling, until firm.

  2. Heat a grill to medium, about 375 F, and oil the grates.

  3. Grill the spiral sausages for 6 to 7 minutes per side, until browned and 160 F in the center, flipping carefully with a spatula.

  4. Add the drained bratwurst and cook 6 to 8 minutes, turning, until evenly blistered.

  5. Grill the scored frankfurters for 4 to 5 minutes, until the cut ends curl open and char.

  6. Pile everything on a board with the beer-soaked onions, mustard and rolls.
