Two-Tone Iced Latte

Cold milk sits on the bottom while chilled espresso drifts down from the top, creating soft caramel and cream layers in the glass. Stir it for a smooth, mellow coffee with a light sweetness, or sip slowly and watch it blend. An easy cafe-style treat for warm mornings.

Method 5 steps

  1. Brew the espresso and stir in the simple syrup while it is hot so it dissolves completely.

  2. Pour the sweetened espresso into a small jug and chill it in the freezer for 5 minutes, or stir it over a few ice cubes, so it does not melt all the ice in the glass.

  3. Fill a tall glass with ice and pour in the cold milk, stirred with the cream if using, until it reaches about two thirds of the way up.

  4. Slowly pour the espresso over the back of a spoon held against the ice so it floats and forms a darker layer on top.

  5. Dust with a pinch of cinnamon if you like and serve with a straw for stirring.
