Baked Donuts Dipped in Milk Chocolate

These tender vanilla donuts bake in a pan instead of a fryer, so they come out soft, cakey and light. A thick milk chocolate dip drips down their golden sides, and chocolate sprinkles cling to the glaze before it sets. Kids love decorating them, and the whole batch is ready in under forty minutes.

Method 7 steps

  1. Heat the oven to 350 F and brush a 12-cavity donut pan generously with melted butter.

  2. Whisk the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt, then whisk the buttermilk, egg, melted butter and vanilla in a separate bowl.

  3. Stir the wet ingredients into the dry just until no streaks remain, then pipe the batter into the cavities about two-thirds full.

  4. Bake 10 to 12 minutes until the tops spring back and the undersides are golden. Cool 5 minutes, then turn out onto a rack.

  5. Melt the milk chocolate with the cream in short microwave bursts, stirring until smooth and pourable.

  6. Dip the top of each cooled donut into the chocolate, let the excess drip, then set right side up and drizzle a little extra over the top.

  7. Shower with chocolate sprinkles while the glaze is wet and let set 20 minutes.
